Biography and approach

Marie Aloir has lived and worked for over 30 years in Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, a picturesque and naturally inspiring little village. She discovered the arts at the age of 13. It was a blissful shock, one that would benefit her throughout her life. Trained as a printmaker, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal, she has also studied with Tom Hopkins, Irena Korosec, Pierre Léon Tétreault, Lucio de Heush, and Kittie Bruneau.

She taught for 10 years then devoted herself to painting in 1983.

A Canada Council for the Arts grant holder, she works on monumental pieces that have mainly been presented in Artists' Centres and Maisons de la Culture and since 2004 her works have been exhibited regularly in her studio via the Circuit des Arts Memphrémagog and now Village des Métiers d'art de Saint-Etienne-de-Bolton.

Marie Aloir experimented with several artistic avenues during her life:

Expressionism, mandalas, temples and divinities to branch out for several years to the edges of seas, rivers, as well as, her floral period which she paints from nature, have been added for some time, abstract landscapes inspired by the St. Lawrence.

Marie Aloir's works have been seen and are part of private collections in Quebec, Ontario, the United States and France.
